Artwork Description

This work visualises the complexity and nature of physical and mental desire, how your heart races excitedly as she approaches you, the goosebumps you get from the soft touch of her hand moving along your arm, how everything seems to fall in place when you’re together, the way our personalities connect, the enjoyment you have in each others company. The silhouette of her body is black and white to emphasise the idea that something is one or the other, that there is no “in between”. She is either your type or she’s not, she can be malevolent or benevolent, you either like her or you don’t. I deliberately want to leave the interpretation open so as to make the viewer ask questions about themselves. How does she make you feel? What do I want? Am I happy with her?

Artist Bio

I am an artist and photographer born and based in Perth, Western Australia. My passion for art began at a very young age. I’ve enjoyed drawing and painting since I can remember. My endeavours in art led to many 1st place awards throughout my education.

With portraiture my work tends to reflect expressionism, cubism and pop art while other works reflect more abstract ideas. I have also produced installations. I use high quality materials to produce my work. I tend towards the use of acrylic and oil paint although I have other media available for use. My work is usually large although it can be small, depending on how well I feel it helps expresses the idea.

My artworks are a way of expressing my inner most thoughts, emotions and desires by combining my photography work with my artistic abilities. I like to break down a form to its bare essence in terms of its shape, colour, value and texture, then let my imagination take over to reconstruct the image according to my past experiences and how they have affected me throughout my life. In doing so I am always challenging my perception of reality to move beyond photographic realism and in turn allowing myself to constantly evolve beyond what I thought were my innate abilities.
