Visiting the red centre of Australia has been on my bucket list for many years. I was lucky enough to be gifted a trip there for my birthday from my family. I took my eldest son on what was a magical 3 days.
Really, words just canโt describe the place with any justice. Sure itโs been photographed and artistically rendered in some way millions of times, but i am really rather fond of the images i created in my time there.
Most people iโd guess just show up and snap away, but many donโt realise that there are strict rules and regulations with regards photographing in the Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park. Without going into too much detail, you need a licence, and any images that you wish to sell commercially need to be formally approved. Also, there are controls over where you can shoot, some places are prohibited due to the cultural significance of those particular sites (birthing caves for example).
These images have been approved for commercial by Parks Australia.
This is sunrise. We arrived while it was still dark, and stayed well into full morning light. Colours and hues were constantly changing, its incredible to see those oranges suddenly burst into light. Iโm just not clever enough to describe in words!
I've chosen this size, i think the subject and medium lends itself to being on the larger size. As a photograph, i have flexibility with sizing, so please get in touch if you have other ideas around sizing (and paper)
