Deja Vu is a large oil painting on composite board. I painted this painting with palette knives in a monochromatic colour theme. Although working with palette knives makes it harder to master control or definition than brushes, this painting is still within the Realism genre.
This painting is quite special to me tofold.
1. I chose this scene as my very first painting when I was receiving private lessons as a teenager. Michael Zaiter was my tutor, and he was a fabulous artist and a true gentleman.
2. My wife also chose this scene for her first lesson on how to paint an oil painting with palette knives, only this time, I was her tutor.
Realism as a genre is defined by being a realistic or accurate representation of the visual world around us. So Realism can refer to artworks in the genres of landscapes, portraits, still life, architecture and figurative.
