Wonderland is a long semi-abstract oil painting on board
A while back, I was joining a group of enthusiastic adventurers on an annual pilgrimage to the Blue Mountains. I used to take photos whilst trekking the 6′ track, a marathon trail starting at Nelly’s Glen (Katoomba) and finishing at Jenolan Caves. It was a gruelling but thoroughly rewarding weekend of bushwalking and sleeping under the stars.
I used one of these photos as reference material for Wonderland. Because this painting is semi-abstract, the composition is loosely based on the photo. I minimalised the scenery by stripping back the foliage and long grasses, then used my imagination to include other worldly trees and shrubs. I would classify this artwork as semi-abstract because it is clear to see that the interpretation is of a landscape scene.
This painting would be a wonderful feature above a long cabinet or centred on a long wall.
