Light on Water

At first there was only a pale wash of blue, soft as breath on glass, scattered in tiny drifting points across the surface. The river did not hold the sky so much as dissolve into it. Every dot of colour trembled independently — small, deliberate touches of turquoise, seafoam, pearl, and mist — yet together they moved like a living thing. Nothing stayed still long enough to be named.

Then the sun arrived quietly.

Not in a line. Not in a blaze.

It slipped through the painting in fragments of yellow and orange, shy little embers glowing beneath the cool blues and greens. They peeped through the surface like laughter overheard from another room. Here a flicker. There a hidden warmth. A sudden spark buried inside white.

The water carried everything, happiness on a canvas.
