Artwork Description

This is an original design inspired by the humble Hills Hoist clothes line and the many childhood memories associated with these Australian icons. This delicate and playful piece is cut from 300GSM black card, and has fine white ink details hand drawn into it. It is mounted so that it is slightly raised from the surface to create slight shadows to reveal the nature of the cut paper.

Artist Bio

I am an artist and designer located in the historic city of Albany on the south coast of West Australia. With over 30 years working in the arts and exhibiting widely since completing a Fine Arts degree at Curtin University in Perth in 1988, my experience has ranged from public art projects, arts consultation, community arts, and exhibition curation. I have also worked nationally and internationally as a community arts worker and artist-in-residence.
For the last fourteen years my focus has been my design studio called “This Papercut Life”. Here I design and create contemporary papercut and woodcuts, jewellery, art objects, and designs for public spaces. As well as hand cutting large paper artworks, I also use lasercutting to cut and etch my designs in paper, perspex, and wood. Themes include West Australian and Australian flora and fauna design, as well as delicate paper designs which celebrate family and community in all their myriad forms.
My work has been commissioned by both the corporate and private sectors, and I stock galleries including Aspects of Kings Park (WA), and the National ANZAC Centre in Albany as just a few.
