A self-taught artist, Penny is renowned for her portrait work, particularly her remarkable ability to capture expression and emotion through the eyes. Her work spans graphite, pastel, acrylic and oils, while her innovative wall murals further demonstrate her creativity. Using sponges and acrylic paints rather than traditional brushes, she produces richly textured, vibrant murals that transform ordinary walls into striking artworks.
Penny’s artistic journey was sparked by a childhood encounter with celebrated Australian author and illustrator May Gibbs, creator of the beloved Snugglepot and Cuddlepie stories. This meeting inspired a lifelong passion for drawing, storytelling, and artistic exploration.
Extensive travels throughout the UK, Europe, and the Australian Outback continue to influence her artistic vision. Her work Match Girl, a finalist in the Brisbane Institute of Art Art Awards, features a feminine outline with a skirt formed from burnt matches, exemplifying her imaginative and distinctive style.
