I grew up watching my mum paint and become a successful artist. She is actually on this site, Viv Gregory!
I’ve always been creative through different mediums such as drawing, woodwork, craft, etc. But funny thing is, it wasn’t until I became a mum myself that I started to pick up a brush and begin to experiment. I remember feeling that sense of self expression and release as the colours filled my first canvas. And since then, my paints have never been too far away.
I tend to start with a theme in my mind, but let the process determine the outcome. I like to be spontaneous and unplanned. The only thing I do know is when the painting is completed and I can put the brush or palette knife down!
I use a number of techniques. I'm a fan of paint layering and using different mediums to create texture. I love acrylics over stretched canvas.
And I love that a painting can speak to so many on a deeper level.
My paintings are used to create added depth to creative stage displays, to tell a story and to create a space for personal reflection.
