Artwork Description

Raw is like the desert. Simple but powerful. The colours used are more among the lines of of what you see when you think of a dry place , but these colours bring in more depth. The more you see the more details you will unfold.

Artist Bio

Suganya Kannan is a contemporary Australian abstract artist based in Ballarat, Victoria. With over 20 years of artistic experience, she has explored a variety of mediums and styles before discovering her passion for textured abstract art.

Working primarily with acrylics, mixed media and palette knives, Suganya creates richly layered artworks inspired by the ocean, natural landscapes and the subtle rhythms found in nature. Texture plays a central role in her practice, often enhanced with metallic accents to capture changing light and create a tactile experience that invites viewers to look beyond the surface.

In 2025, Suganya presented her debut gallery exhibition, *Layers of Perception*, at the Hume Global Learning Centre in Sunbury. The exhibition featured an extensive collection of original works and received an overwhelmingly positive response, resulting in more than 20 paintings being acquired by collectors. This milestone marked an exciting chapter in her artistic journey and strengthened her passion for creating meaningful, nature-inspired abstract art.

Through every painting, Suganya hopes to evoke a sense of calm, curiosity and connection, encouraging viewers to discover their own stories within each textured layer.
