This artwork is inspired by a project on 'connectedness'. I believe that so much of human connection is created through music, dance, and singing. The idea for this artwork came from my study of the impact of COVID on connectedness. Due to COVID, groups of people could no longer meet. Because of this, people were no longer creating meaningful experiences or memories together, instead, people were trapped inside their homes with only their own company. Connectedness comes from meaningful experiences, and because these experiences were no longer occurring, a sense of connectedness was forgotten. I believe connectedness can be experienced through dancing and music. My artwork is my impression of how dancing and music connect us and creates meaningful relationships and friendships, despite culture, gender, age, or race.
My Artwork contains intensely saturated colours which create a sense of playfulness and joy. These bright colours create a powerful visual effect on the viewer. The bright, saturated reds, yellows, blues and greens are energising, and they grab your attention, allowing them to stand out from their surroundings. A palette knife was used to create the thick layers of clothing. This texture stands out, and acts as a focal point, drawing the viewers' eyes around the composition of the artwork, to the central point of the female dancer.
