My love of art began when I was a small child from which time I have been constantly intrigued by visual patterns, shapes and colours. I have never had the opportunity to study art formally but have always been connected to my artistic self by drawing, painting and designing since I was a young woman. I have now been painting and sketching every day without fail for over four years. I learned how to paint by studying other artists' work. I have mostly been inspired by the Impressionists, Post Impressionists, Pointillists and early modern artists.
Since 2009, I have been developing my own technique of Pointillism as was created in the late Nineteenth Century by the French artists Georges Seurat, Paul Signac and others. It is a slow technique but very satisfying. I love experimenting, often through mistakes and accidents, trial and error and through the courage to explore. My entire focus now is to attempt to capture the essence of nature particularly natural landscapes, trees, skies, waves and the abstraction of all of this. I work mainly now in acrylic and oil as well as graphite and ink.
I exhibit and sell through Bellingen, Urunga and Dorrigo galleries. I do not use social media but I have a newly created website: sheoakfineart.com.au
My home is my studio, located in the lovely seaside village of Valla Beach near Nambucca Heads. My constant companions are my dogs and the wild birds in my yard. I do hope you enjoy my paintings as much as I enjoy painting them.
