After getting to know the local Crows or Australian Ravens- they bigger members of the Corvidae family and have shaggy feathers at their throats, it was a single portrait I decided to paint although I was tempted to paint one that we took while photographing Cormorants: Dancing in the rain. The colours on these stunning feathers is what I aimed to capture but the intelligence of this species is also worth noting. A pair that raise a baby every year near our cottage bring their pink throat babies to our garden for Daddy Day Care and it always amuses me how quick they are to learn that all food is washed thoroughly in the bird bath first.
