This is literally the funniest Australian bird we have met! The ones we have met have played hide and seek with us on more than one occasion as they curious dancing birds. Similar to Ostriches in Africa- the main difference is their "fire eyes" and delightful personalities. To photograph their eyes nicely a photographer must be lower than them. Of note is the exceptional Dads- they raise all the chicks themselves, up to 40 have been reported which is maybe why this Dad was a little more scruffy than the pretty lady. Its funny that my husband photographed Mr. Emu while I photographed Mrs. Emu- another two artist artwork! I used the red soil ochre and deep blue in the background as these colours are symbolic of Australia too and something that we noticed immediately upon arrival- blue sky and red soil whereas we used to white/ brown and light blue/ grey. Thus this is a artwork that represents everything we like about Australia- the fauna and flora and humour.
