This artwork was inspired after a day out doing wildlife photography where the weather had turned to rain- this was a quick photograph before we packed up and it was only after we got home that I realised this bird was looking smug because he had his supper in his claws, which is why he didn't fly off. The thing with Nankeen Kestrels is they have this habit of perching right on the end of branches for quick take offs. This experience made me realise that for some to survive, others must provide and I guess it is one of my more contemplative artworks addressing the meaning of life. Predatory birds always leave me thinking of food chains and the cycle of life- they powerful birds.
