There's quite a few Australian birds that like to sun bath and dust bath in Canberra- Magpies are the second most often seen doing this with wings spread open they lie on the ground and are quite motionless on occasion, the first to warm up and the second to condition their feathers. They often catch us off guard when we go to check they alright- this one was not moving for he definitely wanted to catch the last rays of afternoon sun. He had found a perch above a wattle flower and was most content. Just further around the corner was the Spinebills- they were after the same nectar and so were some bees. I wanted to capture this moment in this artwork as it was super relaxing to see and photograph such a happy chap and he was perfectly placed in the light so that I could study him with the sun on my back too.
