These little White eye birds I first saw in South Africa which is where the name for this artwork came from. Witoogies is Afrikaans for White eyes but these birds were photographed in Canberra. Willemse is also a Afrikaans name and the pronunciation is something I had to learn! I have painted these birds larger than life because they have such gorgeous personalities on both continents.
