We were photographing down by the eagle nest when this little Robin arrived to observe us from a nearby branch. When I started painting this picture my husband asked only one thing- no eagle painting? That came later but this little bird was so captivating in the mist that morning he was painted first. What we have learnt photographing the eagles growing up was that there is a relationship between them and the little birds in the surrounding bush for we have often observed smaller birds just below the eagle nest. We always know however when the eagles are around for the entire area goes quiet and you can often see the magpies glance skywards too and run for cover under the trees for eagles that eat cockatoo for Sunday breakfast need a wide open space to catch their prey and be able to take off again- hence the safety under the nest. I am sure you will agree that this little Yellow Robin has special memories, even though I only had time to refocus and take only one photo of him.
