Artwork Description

Gathered Together

No. 4 of the Woven Collection
103cm high x 103cm wide x 5cm depth

A contemporary mixed media artwork combining hand-cut textile and paint, creating a tactile, sculptural surface that shifts with light and perspective.

Gathered Together is the fourth work in Suzanne Carter’s Woven Collection, a series exploring connection, diversity and the quiet strength found in unity.

Softly gathered fabric forms meet across the canvas, converging in a series of sculptural knots that anchor the composition. Shades of deep pink, ivory and charcoal stretch and fold toward one another, creating both tension and harmony. The gathered forms appear independent yet interconnected, symbolising the way individual identities come together to form something stronger as a whole.

The composition celebrates contrast — colour, direction and movement — while remaining balanced and calm. Each gathered point becomes a moment of connection, reflecting the idea that diversity does not divide; it enriches.

Created using carefully layered coloured textiles integrated with paint, the surface holds depth, movement and subtle variation. While the composition follows a considered design, no two works are ever identical — each carries its own unique shifts in texture, placement and energy.

Bold in scale yet refined in tone, this piece brings architectural texture and emotional resonance to contemporary interiors.

Room settings are a guide, please check measurements to be sure of the size.

Artist Bio

Suzanne Carter is a contemporary Australian artist based in Tomakin on the NSW South Coast.

Her practice explores connection as an evolving experience, expressed through multiple visual languages that move between sculptural textile form and expressive abstraction. Working intuitively, she builds each piece through a process of response and refinement, allowing compositions to develop their own rhythm, movement and energy.

Suzanne's current collections—including Botanicals, Woven, Deep Reflections, Exuberance, Koi, Our Choices and the Intuitive Linen Collection - explore different expressions of connection, from nature-inspired forms to quiet introspection, personal growth and bold, expressive movement. Her work often sits between painting and object, particularly within her textile-based pieces, where hand-constructed elements introduce depth, structure and tactile presence.

Her work has been exhibited across New South Wales and Victoria, including the Art Lovers Australia Spring Collection Exhibition in Collingwood, Melbourne. Suzanne is also part of Market Gallery on Edward in Batehaven on the NSW South Coast, where a selection of her original works is available throughout the year.

An award-winning artist, Suzanne has received Champion and First Prize at the Moruya Agricultural Show and multiple awards, including the Royal Canberra Show 2026. Most recently, she received the Service Art Award at the South Coast Private Hospital Wollongong Art Exhibition, recognising the artistic achievement and creativity of service personnel.

Her work is increasingly collected for its contemporary presence, emotional depth and ability to transform a space.

At the heart of Suzanne's practice is a simple intention:

"I create to connect — in colour, in words, in truth."
