Koi Ma
No. 4 of the Koi Collection
152cm wide x 77cm high x 3.5cm depth
⸻
An intuitive mixed media painting built through layered colour and movement, resulting in a one-of-a-kind work that cannot be replicated.
Koi Ma explores the Japanese concept of “Ma” — the meaningful space between form and movement.
Three bold black circular forms anchor the composition, creating rhythm and architectural structure across the canvas. Surrounding them, sweeping strokes of Yellow Sienna and Burnt Umber move with fluid energy, contrasted by sharp white highlights that introduce light and clarity.
The palette is warm and grounded. Black brings depth and strength, while earthy ochres create movement that feels both organic and intentional. The circular forms offer moments of pause within the flow — a balance between power and restraint.
Created through an intuitive layering process, each mark responds to the last, allowing the composition to evolve naturally. This ensures the work remains completely unique, with a sense of movement and energy that cannot be repeated.
Designed as a commanding showpiece, Koi Ma anchors a space with confidence. At 152cm wide, it carries strong architectural presence while maintaining compositional discipline and symbolic depth.
