Artwork Description

'The Way Through' is a diptych of two panels, each measuring 30.5 × 30.5 cm, with a total wall coverage of approximately 63 × 30.5 cm when hung side by side. The work was created through an exploratory process, using a palette knife to build thick, layered texture and subtle sculptural detail with mixed media on wooden art board.

Inspired by ocean tones and natural movement, the composition continues across both panels. The diptych can be displayed side by side or slightly staggered, allowing the work to flow naturally and settle into a space.

Smaller diptychs suit areas such as shelves, cosy nooks, powder rooms, or above narrow furniture — spaces where a modest-scale artwork can add balance and quiet interest without overwhelming the room.

Artist Bio

Suzie Firth is a Melbourne-based artist whose practice centres on exploring texture and subtle sculptural painting. Working with mixed media on canvas and wood, her artworks are created to bring a sense of the natural environment inside, adding a quiet, calming presence to a space.

Suzie is often drawn to cohesive colour palettes inspired by coastal and natural landscapes, while remaining open to exploring new tones and combinations as her work evolves. Texture plays a leading role in each piece, with layers built slowly using palette knives and hand-applied techniques, allowing the work to develop intuitively rather than following a fixed plan.

What began as a grounding ritual has become an essential part of her daily life. Each artwork is created in a state of quiet focus, with the intention of offering balance, ease, and a sense of calm to the spaces they live in.
