Artwork Description

In a child's imagination the slow trickle of the Humbug Creek transforms into a majestic, fast flowing and windy river. The dry and barren landscape springs to life in an array of colour and hope. Naturally the little girl can fly like a bird travelling far from home to discover something more. Inspired by a favourite book, "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" and memories of growing up in a small rural town, Jonathan reminds us to follow our dreams and never give up.

Artist Bio

I once poured water over a dead frog for hours. When Mum asked me what I was doing I replied, “I want to bring it back to life.” She said, “That's impossible, it’s dead.” My Nan said, “Oh just let her be, she wants to do it.”
After several hours of perseverance (and hundreds if not thousands of trips to the tap with a cup) its skin gradually went from dry, dull and shrivelled to smooth, shiny and green, and then…it opened its eyes!
Beside myself with excitement, I raced to fetch the others to come and see. To their astonishment the frog was looking up at them, it blinked, paused for a moment and then slowly turned and hopped away.
In a world filled with too much horror and tragedy, I feel compelled to paint about life, hope and happy endings.
