i would like to acknowledge that these words were written down and sung by the great John Prine - an American folk-country singer. john sadly passed away in 2020.
i first heard of john prine, when i was living in tofino (british columbia) in Canada. i was sitting in a cafe just a bit out of town. through the hustle and bustle of hearing customers order their coffees and me trying to concentrate on some work i had to do, a song came on in the background.. it caught me straight away. i quickly remembered the lyrics and typed them into google. it came up with john prine.
i liked the beat and then went on to listen to his albums. every song relates to real life, and his interpretation of his life is so plain and interesting to listen to. if you are someone who looks up lyrics on google whilst the song plays then you might like his music and this piece of art. johns music is slightly country but i think some of his songs explain the pain soldiers went through during the vietnam war, how movie directors decided to bring elephants to malls around america to promote movies in the 1980s and other wild things that life throws at americans. always humorous but touching.
this piece of art represents the lyrics in john prines song 'pretty good' which was released in 1971. interpret these words how you want. i think everyone has their own lens of the world and what these lyrics may mean.
this print was lovingly hand designed, hand drawn, hand carved using linocut tools, hand printed using a brayer and block ink on paper in adelaide, south australia.
