Artist Bio

I painted when I was in my late teens and twenties . I attended art classes at night and later exhibited in a small gallery in Belgrave, Victoria, and sold several paintings. Life then led me in many different directions and although I painted occasionally I have only really started again over the last few years. I realise that I was on a long learning curve about relationships, career and the poignancy of life during those years. I feel those experiences now flow into my work. I currently attend drawing classes at the University of the 3rd Age in Glebe, Sydney.

I find it hard to restrict myself to one style of painting. Possibly I will one day but at this stage it seems too restrictive as many different ideas and concepts come into my mind. So my technique varies in that I use a more free flowing, unrestricted, abstract method with landscapes and more precision with people and portraits. I am motivated by the political, such as climate change and the impact of events on people, children and animals both current and historically. The sheer beauty of landscapes and wonder of cities also inspires me.

When I put brush to canvas or charcoal to paper I want to unfold something that tells a story within the scene or within the person. I like it when people say ‘This means something’.
