Artwork Description

On my recent stopover in Dubai I went to Lumiere museum exhibiting works of Kandinsky and Gaudi. This was a push to act on the ideas that were brewing in my head for quite a bit now. I absolutely adore mosaic and stained glass and wanted to create something that would give this feel.

This painting was created in many layers. The first layer was made in acrylic paint and pearlescent medium creating the appearance of stained glass. The pearlescent medium is amazing in generating lots of light and sheen within the painting. Then I proceeded to make my "tiles". For some I used acrylic pours, some were cut from the most luxurious handmade Japanese Chiyogami paper. It is such a pleasure to touch it and incorporate it in my work. Some other beautiful handmade and textured paper was used as well as designer fabric.
Then I laid those mosaic tiles making sure the stained glass layer was showing through to draw the eye in. Once I was happy with the layout, I added few layers of acrylic binder to seal the "tiles" in and give them protection. It became a beautiful solid surface. You can feel the surface of each tile, yet they become the part of one integrated solid surface. Pleasure to touch, really.
The next step was to line each tile with gorgeous gold Liquitex acrylic marker and make sure they were all connected. Once the painting is finished, again, I add few layers of UV protection and varnish to make sure it keeps its colour for as long as a professional painting can.

This painting really draws the eye in. It's a pleasure to wander from tile to tile to look at small details. Yet from the distance it creates an impact in any style of interior due to the richness of its colour.
It's signed both on the front and on the back.
Each painting is 61cm by 91 cm, It comes framed in natural timber (framed size 65 cm by 95 cm) . both of them can be displayed next to each other either horizontally or vertically.

Artist Bio

Tania’s art is about colour, pattern, and texture. Growing up next to the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the heart of Russian art, Tania’s childhood was filled with inspiration. This continued into her early adulthood while living and studying in London, where she enjoyed the plethora of galleries and museums both there and across Europe. During her studies in Architectural Design, Tania built a strong understanding of form and structure, and developed a deep connection with painting. Working as an interior designer had a huge impact on how she viewed art and its role in transforming interior spaces.

“Paintings resonate with people for different reasons: some might be looking for an emotional connection, some to fit a certain space and colour scheme. Artwork can transform spaces more than anything else. It can tie colours that you love together, and fill the space with cosiness and warmth. This is what makes it home.”

Now living on the Gold Coast and enjoying the vibrancy of Australia’s landscapes and culture, Tania’s latest works incorporate mixed media into her oil and acrylic pieces. She finds this further imbues her love of texture and layering into the rich hues of colour that remain at the core of her art.

“Painting for me is a form of meditation. My flower garden is a great inspiration. All sorts of colours mix together and create a wonderful harmony.”
