Artwork Description

In the first world war Australian Diggers used Furphy Water tanks for water storage. The stories and 'yarns' that were told around these tanks became known as 'Furphies'.
Furphy's Foundry is in my home town of Shepparton Victoria, which was named after Sherbourne Sheppard, a sheep farmer.

Artist Bio

I’ve always been personally attracted to art which expresses an opinion or idea to generate thought and reflection. I generally believe that the role of an artist is to create images which express a different or alternative interpretation of life and the world. My paintings, which frequently take a critical view of social, political or cultural issues, are often a reflection of subjective experiences and sentiments; expressed through the use of common objects displayed in unlikely or impossible situations. My personal emotional state or mood can often infiltrate my work – where loneliness may be expressed as a solitary animal in a box, or the drudgery of daily chores will metamorphose into an image of a man carrying a refrigerator.
