Artwork Description

The Japanese Garden at the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens in Brisbane reflects our deep need for natural environments alongside our desire for decorative beauty. It is a place of quiet pleasure and contemplation, where carefully considered forms invite both rest and reflection. In this work, each manicured shrub is represented through monoprints on rice paper. I tried to recreate the shady atmosphere and drama. The composition celebrates the garden as a living artwork of balance and harmony.

Artist Bio

Tanya is a Brisbane-based artist chasing colour, chaos and joy across canvas. Her first love is acrylic, but she happily works in watercolour, gelli printing and mixed media—whatever feeds her imagination. Florals bloom large in her work, a nod to her gardening loving family, but you’ll also find birds, bold seascapes and landscapes, reflecting a deep connection to the natural world and a lifelong love of art.

Driven by the thrill of capturing fleeting moments, Tanya lets intuition lead the way—allowing the magic to happen when the ideas, treatments and colours collide. With a background in design and formal training as part of her teaching degree, she brings both intuition and technical skill to her practice. Tanya is a regular at Brisbane’s art workshops, a proud member of weekly painting groups, and she takes the opportunity to volunteer with art activities in her local community. Her work radiates the joy she finds in every brushstroke.
