Artwork Description

“Riding on the Horses” was inspired by a photograph taken in Europe, where these powerful horses stood poised and waiting. Their quiet strength and stillness spoke of long days of work and unspoken partnership. I wanted to capture their presence through expressive marks rather than realistic detail — to suggest their energy and character rather than describe it.
Firstly I made layers of intuitive colour, followed by the horses being sketched in ink. The background was softly veiled using negative space, hinting at the shadows and suggesting recent movement.
This artwork brings both movement and calm — perfect for a living room, study, or entryway where natural light enhances its depth. It invites reflection and conversation, appealing to those who love expressive, contemporary pieces.
Ready to hang.

Artist Bio

Tanya is a Brisbane-based artist chasing colour, chaos and joy across canvas. Her first love is acrylic, but she happily works in watercolour, gelli printing and mixed media—whatever feeds her imagination. Florals bloom large in her work, a nod to her gardening loving family, but you’ll also find birds, bold seascapes and landscapes, reflecting a deep connection to the natural world and a lifelong love of art.

Driven by the thrill of capturing fleeting moments, Tanya lets intuition lead the way—allowing the magic to happen when the ideas, treatments and colours collide. With a background in design and formal training as part of her teaching degree, she brings both intuition and technical skill to her practice. Tanya is a regular at Brisbane’s art workshops, a proud member of weekly painting groups, and she takes the opportunity to volunteer with art activities in her local community. Her work radiates the joy she finds in every brushstroke.
