Artwork Description

I came across 'Meroogal', a House museum on a trip to the Shoalhaven area, NSW. Once occupied by four generations of women from a local family, its intact old-world charm seemed irresistible, I just had to paint it.
Finished with a satin varnish and comes in a Tasmanian oak floating frame.
Please note there are some slight hairline cracks noticeable in the light part of the sky, due to timber expansion/movement of the panel board in change of temperature, but I see this as in keeping with the character of the old weatherboard house subject.

Artist Bio

Based in Lithgow, near the beautiful Blue Mountains, as a self-taught artist, I have been drawing and painting ever since I can remember. I love painting the Australian landscape and its unique flora. I aim to paint what I see, at the same time conveying the mood of a place. I feel a strong compulsion to create artworks exploring as many Australian native flowers as I can, getting to know each flower and discovering how I interpret its detail. I favour acrylics as my main medium, gradually layering the paint to achieve smooth rich surfaces and my desired colours.
Gleaning inspiration and learning from visiting art galleries, museums and reading art books, the artists I admire include John Glover, Nora Heysen, Ellis Rowan, the Dutch Masters and the Pre-Raphaelites. My mum, also an artist, has always been a great encouragement and of invaluable help.
I relish every moment I spend making art, in one end of our sunroom at my studio art desk, custom made by my lovely husband... and would be quite happy to continue painting forever!
