Artwork Description

A semi-abstract figure emerges through layered colour and textured surface, where soft transitions meet sharper structural lines. Painted in acrylic on raw hessian, the work explores the tension between solidity and dissolution—form is suggested, then partially lost again within the surrounding field.
Cool blue-grey tones contrast with saturated magenta and deep violet, creating a sense of movement and internal light. The composition invites the viewer to read the figure intuitively, shifting between representation and abstraction.
The natural weave of the hessian remains visible throughout, adding depth and tactility to the surface

Artist Bio

Ted Forbes is a Newcastle-based self-taught abstract artist working primarily in acrylic on hessian and canvas. Beginning his artistic journey after retirement, he creates intuitive paintings that explore the relationship between architecture, landscape and organic form.
