I have always been a creative type and have dabbled in a variety of art forms over the years. I studied writing at University, but I slowly grew frustrated with my chosen field.
Its lack of immediacy as an art form troubled me. I also realised there are too many obstacles in the way between the writer and the audience and I gradually came to the realisation that the writing process no longer sparked joy for me. In fact it was having the opposite effect. It was sparking fear and loathing. This dreaded epiphany coincided with some major life events, such as the glorious birth of my first child, but also with a family tragedy that had catastrophic repercussions and took over a decade to recover from.
I first picked up a paint brush during my healing process and started dabbling once more. Painting was very soothing and therapeutic, but also very inspiring and I needed so much to be inspired again.
I was obsessed with drawing as a youngster, particularly human figures and faces. This fascination with faces and forms continues to influence what I paint today . However these days I like to explore more complex themes such as gender stereotypes and the human condition generally via expressive use of colour, form and subject matter, especially narrative portraiture and figurative work. I also love exploring colour combinations and the way they can evoke emotions and feelings in the viewer. My use of colour and subject matter is completely intuitive. I am very right-brained!
My art is heavily influenced by my life journey and my imagination, as well as every artist's work that I have ever eyeballed. Consuming Art in all forms is so inspirational to me and is what propels me to keep experimenting and producing. Each day begins with a new idea and a new creative journey.
I will be uploading new artworks regularly.
Thanks for reading and viewing my work. I really appreciate it!
