I first visited the idea of painting a snake 4 years ago but as soon as I researched reference images and saw the amount of detail involved in painting a snake I was instantly turned off. In August 2022 I revisited the idea as I felt more confident in my practice and took on the challenge. Working in sections, pieces of this painting came to life. Like most of my artwork, Monotone (black and white) is a favourite and this snake painting wasn’t going to be the exception. I wanted the snake to blend into the black background in the shadows. I wanted the black negative space around the snake to be just as important as the snake itself. If you are looking for a painting that is dark and moody with lots of detail to impress this painting is for you. No reproductions of this artwork will ever be made. It is truely one of a kind. Completely original. This painting has been professionally framed behind UltraVue UV70 Anti-reflective glass. This painting was a finalist in the Moreton Bay Region Art Prize 2023.

My subjects vary but I love painting wildlife. I'm always trying to push my own boundaries within my practice whether that be testing new techniques, trying out new materials or changing my subject matter. My recent works are watercolour and I have been experimenting a lot with masking fluid. By using masking fluid as a tool throughout the painting process, I have been able to achieve a great level of detail. Right now, I have been using masking fluid to achieve different texture. This is something I hope to explore in the future.
