Artwork Description

This is an abstract of rectangular shapes jostling and sliding. This drawing references the urban area that I live in which is constantly changing with the erection of new apartment buildings. This drawing also works on another level. It also hints at our inner landscape where thoughts, memories, emotions and experiences jostle for constant attention from the submersion of our unconscious minds. Artist Bio

Hi. My name is Teresa Prior. I live and work in Western Sydney. I am an artist who is currently specialising in abstract paintings in acrylic on canvas. I have drawn and painted all my life. I have taught Art and Art History in two Sydney High Schools and have participated in numerous joint art exhibitions. My works evolve from an intuitive and emotional response to my lived experiences. Sometimes my work is focussed on my response to the natural environment trying to evoke mood and atmosphere as though the viewer was experiencing these responses with me. Other times I explore geometric hard-edged shapes contrasted with free-flowing forms, or respond intuitively to flowing paint combinations. I am interested in the creative process itself with its psychological and emotional aspects. I also experiment with different acrylic media that give my work s visual interest and with different methods of paint application. Sometimes I'll be emphasizing different paint textures. Other times colour combinations will come to the fore. I also take this approach into my mixed media drawings. Like Wassily Kandinsky, I want my abstract paintings and drawings to be like music. Currently I am working on small canvases as I am on a one- woman campaign to bring enlivening artworks to small-roomed suburban houses and units. There is too much grey out there at the moment. My continuing mission is to experiment and have fun while exploring a range of abstract approaches to painting, so that I can produce art that entrances, brings joy and visual satisfaction into people's lives and homes.
