Artwork Description

Possibly the most well recognised of Australian cockatoos, there is no shortage of these raucous birds almost anywhere. Their character and antics – and loud screeching – means that for many people, sulphur crested cockatoos (or ‘cockies’) have a special place in Australian culture. In terms of artwork, this work uses colour to depict what is nominally a ‘white’ bird – subtle shading of blues, purples, pinks contrast against the yellows (and orange) of the bird’s crest. Making use of a circular composition with linnear repetition, the mark making is loose but still retains subtle detail -watercolour is a perfect medium for these lovely birds. This work has been awarded a Highly Commended in a national online artshow, and continues to gain attention.
