It is not easy for me to paint roses. I was hopelessly trying to set up a still life with a bunch of roses in a glass fish bowl vase. Then, I put them against the painting of my NZ fellow artist Barbara Franklet, and my heart jumped. Her whimsical and lively work brought so much life and fun to the flowers. Roses joined the Happy Play.
Barbara kindly gave me permission to include her piece "Black 8" in my still life. I did it with some alterations.
