Adelaide based queer artist, Tracey Hansell, has spent more than 20 years creating art with the intention to inspire beauty and creativity in the world. Currently working in acrylic, mixed media, photography and exploring natural pigments Tracey’s works ask the viewer to interpret what is in front of them, to create their own story essentially taking what they need from the image.

I am an artisan story hunter; I capture everyday tales with colour and form creating a visual feast that sates your soul but leaves just enough room for sweets.
As a child I was always told I saw the beauty in everything – I was also told I always had my head in the clouds and terrible handwriting, back then I thought it was odd, I mean how does one have their head in the clouds when your feet are firmly planted on the ground? But as I’ve grown, I’ve come to realise that the adults in my life were trying to say was “you’re an artist”.
You’ll often find me roaming along coastlines or exploring deep within the forest as I chase my muse and her seductive serendipity. It is here, amid the colours, shapes, movement, and light I find my inspiration. And then I head home – I gather my paints, charcoals, natural foraged pigments, found objects and a glass of wine and I create bright, vibrant works full of movement, wonder, despair, excitement, loss and yearning.
