Artwork Description

Tasmanian jewel beetles are the kind of detail most people walk past. Small, fleeting, easy to miss. But when you stop and look closely, they’re extraordinary. Iridescent, intricate, almost unreal.

This painting came from that moment of pause. A reminder that Tasmania’s environment isn’t just grand landscapes, but tiny, unexpected encounters that reward attention.

My work is about noticing, slowing down long enough to see what’s already there. The jewel beetle felt like a perfect expression of that idea, a quiet piece of magic, hidden in plain sight.

Artist Bio

I’m a self-taught watercolour artist based in Tasmania, inspired by this island’s wildlife and the intricate beauty found in nature. I hope that my work captures those moments that stop you in your tracks, because the closer you look, the more there is to see!

My paintings and drawings have allowed me to connect with the wild places around me and to share this with others too. Whether it’s the fine lines on a bird’s feathers or the intricate patterns on a crustacean’s exoskeleton, it’s a reminder that nature’s most breathtaking details are often the ones we almost miss.

Through my artwork I have supported various conservation efforts in Tasmania. Including donated artwork that features on the fundraising gift range for the Hobart Rivulet Platypus, support for the Save the Tasmanian Devil Appeal, and donated artwork and proceeds to Save The Orange-bellied Parrot, Swift Parrot Projects, and to support the Spotted Handfish conservation projects.

I wrote and digitally illustrated a Children’s book called Worm World, and my illustrations have been featured in Birdsong: A Celebration of Bruny Island Birds and Cockatoo, a collaboration between Thames & Hudson and BirdLife Tasmania, and various other publications. I have also collaborated with Blundstone Australia and Janji where my illustrations have been used in marketing and apparel.

Thanks for taking the time to look at some of my work.
