Art is my first love and where I feel I truly exist. Originally from the UK I trained in printed and knitted textiles for my HND in Buckinghamshire and went onto a Bachelor of Hons in Fine Craft Design in Northern Ireland. I kept up my practice as an artist, but I have spent my working life as a textile, jewellery, and rug designer. I found this experience heightened my ability to look at shape, form, space, colour and texture and informs my painting. I search for peace and the quintessential sense of home in a scene, where you feel still and yet free to contemplate - without stress or anxiety. My childhood is littered with family car journeys staring out at a suburban scene or countryside. They were often long and involve day and night scenes in one journey. Travelling for that amount of time often halts conversation, allowing me to absorb the view and feel deeply connected to the space as I journeyed through them. This vantage point, moving at pace, is where I feel I really connect best with the image. When it comes to laying paint to canvas, I use a dry brush technique with acrylics on a linen ground. I like to allow previous layers to peak through to obtain a vibration in the pigment and an overall hum to the colours.Hopefully I achieve some of the above intention! x
