Artwork Description

Are we here or there, or both simultaneously?

‘Fractured’ builds on themes from my previous work ‘Oh, and I saw you across the ether’, exploring the idea that human connection transcends time and space.

I based this work on a background of shattered CDs, symbolizing my sense of fragmentation and uncertainty—of not being fully whole or cohesive after the recent and sudden passing of my Dad. Just as Schrödinger’s Cat has an undefined fate, the figure here resides in a state of superposition, duality, and ambiguity echoing principles of quantum physics.

Playing with scale, and intertwining ordinary elements with cosmic, I illustrate my shifting perspective of our place in the universe. We are an intrinsic part of the universe, meeting at the boundary where the ordinary meets the infinite.

Nothing is lost.

Artist Bio

Tiana Justine Clifford McDougall is a multidisciplinary artist and educator from Kingaroy, Queensland, working across contemporary painting and visual arts. Grounded in strong technical foundations, her work explores an interest in presence and energy through visual form and composition.

"My practice centres around an interest in presence. I’m drawn to sprezzatura and the tension between effort and effortlessness, refinement and rawness. I balance technical realism with conceptual disruption, allowing texture, layers and visual language to build meaning over time. There is always a negotiation between control, chance and process, between resolution, restraint and grit.

Grounded in strong technical foundations yet shaped by contemporary digital aesthetics and street-level energy, I move between discipline and risk, design principles and intuition. Working across digital and traditional processes, I create tangible objects of art that capture attention immediately and reward deeper looking."
