Artwork Description

Self Edit IV reflects a return to familiarity within the Concealed series. Soft layers of cream, blush and pale yellow build upon a structured foundation, creating a composition that feels calm, restrained and quietly familiar. Beneath the surface, traces of earlier marks remain visible, suggesting a conversation between exploration and the comfort of returning to what is known.
through layers of colour, texture and mark making, each work contains traces of what came before.
Many of the underlying layers were bolder, louder and more instinctive than the final works. Some emerged confidently, only to be toned down later. Others were covered almost entirely. The works reflect the internal conflict between expressing ourselves freely and becoming more palatable, less overwhelming or easier to understand, and the varying ways in which we reveal, conceal and reshape ourselves.
Ultimately, the series is rooted in a quieter question: Is it too much? Am I too much?

Each artwork is an original, painted on stretched canvas and arrives ready to hang with a hanging wire attached. The canvas edges have been finished so the artwork can be displayed beautifully without framing. Due to the layered, intuitive nature of my process, you may notice subtle variations in the edges, which I see as part of the character of each original piece.
Images showing the artwork in an interior setting or with a frame have been digitally generated to help visualise how the piece may look in a space. While every effort has been made to represent scale as accurately as possible, room proportions can vary, so please refer to the listed artwork dimensions and measure your space if needed. Any frames shown are for styling purposes only and are not included with the artwork. Colours may also vary slightly between screens and devices.

Artist Bio

I am an abstract artist based in the Moreton Bay region, creating layered works in acrylic, watercolour and mixed media.

My practice explores the tension between what we express and what we hold back. Through layers of colour, texture and mark making, I create pieces that sit between calm and chaos, softness and intensity, revealing traces of what lies beneath without ever fully defining it.

Painting began as a creative outlet and has evolved into a way of exploring uncertainty, self editing and the stories embedded within layers. Many of my works begin with instinctive, bold marks that shift and evolve as the piece develops. Some elements emerge confidently, only to be toned down later; others are covered almost entirely.

My work reflects the internal conflict between authentic expression and the desire to become more palatable, less overwhelming or easier to understand. Ultimately, it explores the varying ways we reveal, conceal and reshape ourselves, underpinned by a quieter question: Is it too much? Am I too much?

Working from my home studio near the coast while balancing motherhood and family life, I draw inspiration from natural textures, shifting light and the beautifully imperfect rhythm of everyday life. My hope is that each piece invites curiosity, connection and reflection, revealing something new the longer it is lived with and observed.
