Artwork Description

This painting draws inspiration from the Sturt’s Desert Pea, South Australia’s iconic state flower—an image that, to me, immediately evokes this place I now call home. As I painted, the forms began to shift: no longer simply botanical, but like dancers suspended in motion, their velvety red petals flowing through the desert air with a quiet, sensual rhythm.

Many of the flowers and the surrounding landscape dissolve into soft, hazy layers, as if seen through memory or dream. This sense of blur reflects my own experience of migration—having come from overseas and gradually putting down roots in South Australia. Looking back, that journey feels almost unreal, like something half-remembered, fleeting yet deeply formative.

The Sturt’s Desert Pea, resilient and striking in harsh conditions, becomes both a symbol of place and a mirror of inner emotion—of displacement, adaptation, and belonging. Through fluid lines and layered textures, this work moves between plant and body, landscape and memory, inviting viewers into a space where personal history and the natural world quietly intertwine.

Artist Bio

I am a Chinese-born, Australia-based artist. My diverse practice spans painting, drawing, and ceramics. Rooted in both Eastern and Western cultural perspectives, my work mainly explores themes of nature, cultural collision, philosophy, life, and the human experience.

Having relocated to Australia creates the contrast and harmony between my Chinese heritage and my life in a new land. My artworks often reflect a deep curiosity toward the rhythms of nature, the fragility of identity, and the philosophical undercurrents of everyday existence.

Working across multiple mediums, I blend expressive mark-making with quiet reflection, offering collectors pieces that are both emotionally resonant and thought-provoking. Whether through the fluidity of ink, the texture of clay, or the layered meaning of symbolic forms, my art invites viewers into a space of contemplation and connection.

I would like to share my works to collectors who value authentic, cross-cultural narratives and a poetic approach to contemporary life. My practice continues to evolve as I constantly engage with new materials, stories, and perspectives from my surroundings.
