When my ancestors hunted for turtle for food source for the village nothing would be wasted. After getting all the meat off, the shell would be boiled and used to make mask for specific ceremonies such as initiation, funeral and Lore.
I wanted to tell this story through this contemporary piece by showing that the mask came from the turtle.
This mask is my interpretation of what the hunter would see when the Turtle was hunted for their food, he would visualise the mask he would make from the shell once it had been boiled, shaped and sewn together. Bringing his face to life by adding his facial features by using resources around him.
