This painting of the iconic St Kilda Rd, Melbourne is the latest artwork in a series that I’ve been painting around the theme of beauty in the urban environment. Coming out of a long period of lockdown, the dominant colour of this artwork matched the mood of the city at the time. Indeed blue is a colour that's ever present in nature; it is the colour of the sky and the sea, of ice and water. In cultures across the world, blue is a powerful and symbolic colour. While it represents melancholy and sadness in Western culture it also exudes a certain peace, serenity and calm.
The painting has a stained Tasmanian oak shadow frame with the framed dimensions of 105cm (w) x 105cm (h) x 5.5cm (d).
