Modern medicine widely uses scans as a way of seeing inside a patient without the need for a physical surgical examination. One widely used technique is the computed Tomography scan (CT Scan) also known as the computerized axial tomography scan (CAT scan). The CT scan uses X-Rays to produce virtual cross-sectional slices by transforming a series of 2 dimensional (2D) x-rays into a 3 dimensional (3D) digital image of the patient. In the same vein Iโm interested in the way in which a flat painting can be turned into a sculpture of shape and form. โThe Golden Orbโ is series of 2D cross sectional circular artworks in gold leaf that in their totality represent a 3 dimensional golden sphere.
The form of the sculpture changes dramatically depending on the angle youโre viewing it โ see this short video: https://www.instagram.com/p/BmP1CgNBk3w/
The size of the artwork is 30cm(w) x 30cm(h) x 23.5cm(d). The sculpture comes with a protective acrylic case that measures 31cm(w) x 31cm(h) x 26.5cm(d). The white wooden base measures 33.5cm(w) x 3cm(h) x 29cm(d).
