'The Long Drive Home’ is an artwork in a series that I’ve been painting about beauty in the urban environment that is often overlooked in the midst of our busy lives. It’s a fact of life that for many of us living in cities we spend a lot of time in vehicles on our way to somewhere else. While we may distract ourselves during this commute with activities such as listening to music or interacting with devices there is much beauty in the constantly changing show of lights and reflections.
I’ve painted a bokeh effect in this cityscape artwork, the term comes from the Japanese word boke which means ‘blur’ or ‘haze’. Although the bokeh effect is primarily a photographic technique I’ve replicated it here to accentuate the distorting and abstracting effect it has on the sources of light.
This artwork has a stained Tasmanian oak shadow frame with the framed dimensions of 64cm (w) x 64cm (h) x 5.5cm (d).
