‘There’s Still Life in this Oldie’ is part of a series of unconventional blurred artworks I've been painting where the subject is vaguely familiar yet foreign. In this painting I've 'remastered' a still life by Dutch artist Jan Davidszoon de Heem (1606-1684). Sharp lines and detail have been omitted in the painting process of layered aerosol paint resulting in an image as if seen though squinting eyes or an unfocussed camera.
Todd Simpson is a Melbourne based contemporary artist. Todd studied at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney and practices in the fields of sculpture, portraiture and painting. He has been a finalist in numerous Australian and New Zealand Art awards for his work including the Glover Prize (2025 People’s Choice Winner), Clayton Utz Art Award (2025 Highly Commended & People’s Choice Winner), Calleen Art Award (2025 People’s Choice Winner) and Lethbridge Landscape Prize (2025 Highly Commended). In 2025 he was named as one of Australia’s top 100 artists by top100artists.com.
