Artwork Description

As the impacts of climate change become more and more apparent, humanity is facing numerous environmental tipping points. From left to right across the painting, The First Desert explores the change of our land ecosystems from what was once forests to now desert. The thick dark green and blue paint shows dense forest that changes to thinner lines of sand, deeper browns and reds, as the environment changes and the chaotic situation of environmental change increases. As well as moving across the canvas to illustrate the passage of time, the paint streaks move down, illustrating the decline in environmental health and posing the question of how can we act before it is too late?
