My art practice primarily explores the relationship had between the delimited or framed spaces for viewing images and objects. Through my paintings I aim to provoke tensions; through the representation of 3-dimensional space on the 2-dimension field of the canvas. Another tension is aroused by the fruitless action of tirelessly hand making, positioning, and then disassembling or disrupting objects within a composition, I am fascinated by the act and process of laying objects out to find a composition for a still life, recently the subjects of my still life paintings have become more focused on formless objects such as play-dough, plasticine, rubber coated wire and anything else I find, as I find there is an interesting process to arranging a formless object to become formally or compositionally acceptable. This series of paintings started about 5 years ago and I often find myself going back to this series - these are the paintings that I most enjoy the process of working through.
