Continuing the dark landscape trend, Dark Valley 3 was another heavily technique-based experimentation into limited palettes, mixed-media combinations, and how to suggest the subject matter without it becoming overly complicated.
This time, I utilized more solvents to see how the oil-paint and charcoal would interact together, and then once I had laid this on the canvas, I would carve back into it with a dry brush to get these wiry marks in the hill and other areas.
As before, this painting was created using a limited palette of Titanium White, Genuine Naples Yellow, Ultramarine Blue and Ivory Black. The Ultramarine blue adds a softer and colder cast to the environment.
