Man Searching was one of three tall panel paintings I created for my Honours Visual Art studies in 2016. This piece really epitomises the brooding, dark, shadowy quality through a complex layering technique involving many mediums, some of which are experimental combinations.
Thematically, the piece explores this idea of an inner turmoil and searching, questioning self-identity and wading through that mental weight that can accompany deep inner work.
Artists of influence include giacometti, rembrandt and the existential philosophy of Kierkegaard and Sartre.
This is an impactful, sombre, intense piece that displays the figure erupting from a flurry of marks and sliced lines, emerging out of the darkness of both the surrounds and his own mind.
