Artwork Description

My third bird painting, Ringneck posed was also the hardest one to date. Being red-green colourblind, this painting was a serious challenge & yet I welcomed it as a test to see how far I could go with the medium and surface.

There is something serene about these ringneck parrots -- the call of their voice, the multifarious and incredibly subtle and rich patterning of their feathers, and the subtle colour transitions.

The subtle patterning of the feathers and the colour transitions were two things I focused on with this study. The result is a quite rich, yet nuanced palette ranging from very light yellows, purples, muted greens, and rich brown and purple (the eye).

This piece would ideally complement a light and airy bedroom, providing ample room for study of the detail in this piece and adding to a peaceful environment. Hanging in a study room would also be perfect.
